OUR CLASSROOM

Our classroom is on the first floor. It is known as the Music Room because once it was used for music lessons. At that time pictures of famous musicians and various instruments which we are supposed to know well, were hung up on the walls and notice-boards. Of course, a piano couldn’t be exempted.

On one side is the teachers’ room. Peeping into this for the slightest unguided moments, to form the most scandalous gossip, is our favorite pastime. Behind the other wall is the upper level of the school auditorium.

There are 32 desks in our classroom, placed in six rows leaving two extra ones in the sixth row. The teacher’s desk does not stand on a platform.

There is also a bookcase in front of the classroom. On top of it stands a statue of the Blessed Virgin. Once or twice during the week the girls would pick a handful of roses from their garden, or, more often still, from some unconscious benefactors’ garden, to put before her. If you should look around at the walls, you will see a crucifix in front, just above the blackboard. Jesus looks sadly yet tenderly at us each day, reminding us of His immeasurable love for each one of us, and that we must not forget to say our morning, afternoon, and after-school prayers.

This is our classroom. Perhaps it is no better than any other in the building, and to visitors, no different from the rest. Yet, to the 32 of us who may not even occupy it for more than a year, we love it and we are proud to be in it.

我们的教室在二楼。那是称为音乐室的，因为那曾用来上音乐课。那时候，许多著名音乐家的像片，及人家认为我们所懂得的各种乐器，都挂在墙上及布告牌上。当然，一架钢琴是免不了的。

在一边，是教员室。乘着稍稍没有管束的时候，偷窥这教室，作为笑谈资料，是我们喜好的消遣。在别一边墙的后面，是学校大礼堂的上层平面。

我们教室中共有三十二张书桌，排成六行，而第六行便是剩下的额外的两张。教师的书桌下并没有讲台。

教室前部还有一个书橱。橱顶有一座圣母像。每一星期中，女生们总要一次或两次，从她们自己的园中，或者更常的是，从些不自觉到的施主的园中，采一束花来放在她（圣母）的面前。如果你看看四周的墙壁，你会见到前面有一个十字架，正在黑板的上端。耶稣每天悲痛地而又慈爱地看着我们，要我们记起他对我们个个人无限的爱，要我们不要忘记作了晨、午、与放学后的祷告。

这便是我们的教室。或者并不比这屋子中任何别的教室好些，而在参观者看来，跟其他教室并无不同。然而，对于我们这三十二个甚至还未在此室中住过一年以上的，我们都爱它，并觉得住在这教室为荣幸。
